York – Day One – Jorvick and Castle Museum

Our first full day in York was a chance to visit the Jorvik and Castle Museum.

The Jorvik Museum is based on finds from a dig in the Copper Gate nearly 20 years ago. It is a ride and some galleries. Good museum but it was very busy.

After a quick coffee we headed to the Castle Museum. This is a social history museum including a prison museum. Lots to see – some didn’t interest the children but it was worth a visit. The sixties gallery, the prison museum and the Victorian street were the highlights.
