After a well-earned rest back at the hotel on Monday we decided to venture a bit further for dinner. We headed out to Union Station hoping that it was as good as Grand Central in New York. We were not disappointed. It has plenty of shops and places to eat – from fast food to sit down restaurants. We had a wander round the shops before deciding to eat at America. Another good meal, which we couldn’t finish, as there was so much.
While shopping at the station Eleanor got a bobble head Obama that she had wanted before we arrived in Washington. Not sure why but loves it!
As it was still early we decided to take a walk up to the Capitol building. During the day it is open to visitors and has a visitors centre. We walked up the hill from Union Station through a tree-lined avenue. The Capitol building is set in large grounds with a park containing trees from all fifty states.
It is a very impressive building even when it is quiet. I found it amazing to be standing in front of it having seen it so many times on the television.
